We bought this case as a travel/ short term option for our Syrian hamster. It is too small for a Syrian hamster; ours showed lots of distress signs (freezing, biting case, neurotic pacing). The hamster is in the bigger case we were building and seems like a different animal at day 1 of the change. The cage in itself works great but is very open which is great for the pet owner but less so for the pet. Could work for dwarf hamsters.

This cage is nice and large. It’s easy to assemble and clean. I like that some starter accessories are included, but I am not a big fan of the bottle: it’s quite small and goes inside the cage, making it no easily accessible when you want to check/refill it. I’ll probably be replacing it with a large one, and mount it on the outside for easier access.

My daughter had a hamster at her house which meant my son wanted one too. I finally gave in and now Meatball has a new home.1. The overall assembly of this case was fairly easy. It basically just all snaps in place.2. It comes with accessories (wheel, water bottle, bowl, house), but they aren’t of the highest quality. So far, we haven’t replaced them, but we probably will at some point.3. The design of the door makes it hard to get the hamster out. If he is in the bottom of the cage (which he usually is), I have to take the entire thing apart because there is no catching him through the little opening on the top.4. I put the water bottle on the outside of the cage. Yes, I had to bend the wires a bit to get it to fit, but that is a much preferable spot for it.5. Meatball is a dwarf hamster and, for him, it is very spacious.6. We have had Syrian hamsters in the past and I would have concerns with them. They tend to chew and there is a ton of plastic to chew on with this cage.7. I really wish it came with some tunnels. Our other cages have always had tunnels, so I feel like the hamster is missing something here.Overall, it does the trick, but I expect we will upgrade him to a Habitrail OVO soon.

Package arrived quickly. Not hard to assemble (just look at directions on how to put the wheel on, unlike I didn’t for 5 minutes, Lol)It is spacious, (2 floors!) for the 2 drawf brothers we got with lots of room for toys and very narrow bars so they can’t escape.I only wish the door on top were a few inches wider for removing items and petting them without having to take the whole top layer off.We do look forward to getting tubes to attach as well!

Purchased this unit twice….first unit arrived with plastic bottom bowed outwards resulting in “rocking” of the cage on a flat surface. OK, so sent back and ordered another….exact same problem. Worst example of engineering/quality control/manufacturing seen in recent memory. Could have been avoided by using longer “feet” on the corner or more a more rigid plastic bottom. Also plastic L bracket that wheel attaches to is far too flimsy to sustain long term continued operation. Again, why not more rigid plastic? Swing and miss on this one – look elsewhere unless you want to rock your hamster to sleep.

This cage has a ton of possibilities. A few issues: the door is on the top that really doesn’t allow easy access to the hamster. The wheel that is include is worthless and cheap but a replacement wheel doesn’t fix.

I’m getting ready to get a small pet in the near future and have been gathering the supplies needed for them because I want to have everything needed BEFORE bringing a pet home. I’m debating between a hamster or a guinea pig and I have got cages and supplies for both options so that I am ready when I make my decision. (Many of the supplies are the same for both, the cages are the biggest difference).I have had many hamsters and hamster cages in my life, and based on my experiences this one is an average cage. It was relatively easy to assemble, but I will definitely reinforce the connections with wire to prevent escaping hamsters because I have learned from other cages in the past. It is on par with most of the wire cages that I’ve used, although I did expect a bit more considering the price range of this one.I like that there is a tube connection on the cage, so you could in theory connect this up to a habit-trail that runs around the room or house, possibly connecting to other cages. I also like that this comes with a wheel and a water bottle, as well as a little hidey house.3.75 stars

I love this cage!! Only bad thing is the water bottle is teeny tiny and i have to fill way to often. If water bottle was larger i would totally give 5 stars! We have had our teddy bear hamster living in this for a few months now and she loves it! There is soo much room for her to go around and explore and lots of room for me to add things to her cage for her.I have never added a tube to the cage, i dont see any listed to buy unless you buy other brands tubes to attach? But i hate cleaning tubes so i wouldnt add anyways i dont think.

This is a wonderful cage for our Guinea pig! Safe and secure, durable and easy to wipe down when it gets dirty! We have toys and treats hanging from the top bars, which are small enough to keep your pet in- but large enough to be able to stick some hay or treats through! We will use this for years to come!

It’s like a mini mansion for hamsters. Has an upstairs and downstairs with a workout wheel. The wheel isn’t attached very well which could be problematic with energetic hamsters. Only real issue I see is the water bottle. Most cages have a large exterior bottle. This one has a tiny interior one. Deducted a star for the tiny water station.

My son put his gerbil in this cage last week. I realize it’s for a hamster, but a gerbil is close! Anyway, the cage itself is well-made; it’s not cheap junk. It comes with a few accessories that are average – nothing special. It’s nice, how there are two levels with a ramp to access the top level. The opening on the top of the cage is pretty small. It’s fine to put food in the cage, but too small if you’re trying to reach down and get something from the lower level. The water bottle clips inside the cage, which isn’t ideal.All in all this is a very good and sturdy cages, but the design could be a little better.

Very brittal plastic material. Broke during assembly don’t recommend for any type of hamster. Water bottle doesn’t fit between the bars and it leaks. Waste of money.

We love this for our hamster and he loves it too!!!The little house, bowl, and water bottle are laughably small and worthless like others have said. I wouldn’t even give them to my tiny ass hamster.We also took out the wheel and put our own in its place.He’s a pretty happy guy tho. We put his toys, a separately purchased hidey house, and his food on the top.We filled the bottom with bedding and he dove right in. He’s got a whole tunnel system down there.He still comes to the top frequently to eat and play though so we still have easy access to him.We’ve been very pleased with this purchase overall.

I’ve purchased so many cages for our hamsters all of which I felt were far too small and restricted for the size of hamster. This cage finally resolved this issue and I bought two. I did put my own wheel in and rather than the house our hamsters love extra bedding on the base. The design is perfect for this!!

I adopted a hamster, and thought this cage looked good, with enough room for running around and burrowing. But this is the worst cage I have ever purchased. Once you put some bedding in the bottom, it gets wedged around the wheel and the wheel won’t turn. The water bottle would not let any water out, I watched as the hamster tried to drink and no air bubbles were going up inside. I took the bottle out of and other (smaller) cage and my hamster immediately was able to drink. This cage says it has a universal connector to add tubes. I went downstairs this morning and found the tubes I had added were on the ground the my hamster was running around in the house. This is not a universal connector, it did not make a secure connection. I suppose you could tape it in place, but then you would have to remove the tape to change the tubes around. I have had this cage a few weeks, and it’s failed in several ways. Very unsatisfied with this product.

The cage itself is very generous in size (23.6″ x 14.4″ x 11.8″). It is definitely larger than I had expected. It has two floors. The top floor is for food, water and activities. It is surrounded by wire bars. The bottom floor is for resting and is surrounded by plastic. This kit also comes with several starter accessories. They are ok in quality but I recommend upgrading to better ones later. For example, I prefer larger water bottles.The top of the cage has a handy small door for quick & secure access to the interior. If I need access to the bottom or need to clean the cage, I can take the top wire cage off. The cage itself is made of strong and sturdy materials. Overall, it’s a very large cage for a hamster and any hamster would be happy in this home!

Good cage so far. Very easy to assemble. A lot more room for our hamster to move around. We were able to remove the small wheel and place our free standing 8 inch wheel that better suits our hamster. The water bottle was way too small and did not function properly, no water was coming out. We just attached our old water bottle. Very happy with this purchase so far.

I bought a hamster cage and was very disappointed with the quality of this product. The shipping box was perfectly fine and not harmed however the cage looks like someone dropped it. The sides are broken and the metal is bent inwards. I expected more from this purchase and will definitely be returning…

UPDATE: you might as well replace the water bottle right away. Hamster chewed thru the plastic one that comes with the cage :(I’m going to post the review I wish I could have read — it would’ve made my decision on a cage MUCH quicker and easier! We had my daughter’s teddy bear hamster in the Kaytee Crittertrail 2 habitat. The hamster kept escaping and just wasn’t happy in it — despite adding attachments for more space. This new habitat is awesome because it allows for plenty of space and a clear view of burrowing, plus an additional level for feeding, etc. Only issue is that it’s short — only 11” high — and she likes to climb. She clearly needed an additional place to go. I struggled adding the Kaytee tubing onto the cage. Everything online said “universal” tubing fits this cage. It doesn’t. You need the Tiny Tales wide tubing. It’s the only brand that attaches to the cage opening. Once it’s on, any tubing fits the attachments. Anyway, it took way too long to figure all of this out, but we’re all super happy with the finished product. Chi Chi seems quite content!

Unfortunately, it has a few flaws.The water bottle slides out of its cage. The cage attaches to the side, just as with any hamster habitat. the bottle is intended to be held in there, taken out whenever you need to refill it. It slips out very easily and many nights I can hear a clunking around as the hamster tries to manage it.The overall habitat assembles relatively easily. It has two levels. However, the top level is made of wire forcing the hamster to walk on it. Bedding slips through.After a few weeks of using this, the hamster still doesn’t use the wheel. I don’t know why.He also doesn’t use the little house.I don’t recommend this.Anthony Trendlanthonytrendl.com

Big two level cage for the kids’ Syrian hamster. Water bottle does not work too well. He went two days without getting water before I noticed it was not delivering water….poor guy was thirsty. Nice deep base so a critter can burrow. Wheel is ok. Flexes down from his weight and squeaks when he runs. Prefers to climb up and down through the center hole rather than use the ramp. The bottom tub isn’t as sturdy as I would like. First cage arrived with a shattered bottom. Hopefully holds up over time. He likes the space.

It is a spacious cage for a russian/winter white hamster. I would not recommend it for Syrian hamsters because they are bigger species of hamsters.Russian/winter white hamster wise, i would say it is a great size. Easy to clean as well. Downside is there is only one access which is on top. Would prefer if there is one more on the sides.

I like this cage BUT it only has a door on TOP of this 2 floor cage so it’s really hard to go in thru the small door opening on the top & have to reach down past the top floor, down to bottom floor to pick the hamster up carefully! The water bottle DOESN’T work as every other review states!

First night our hamster escaped from the cage. After a couple of hours we found him and thoroughly examined the cage to find that there’s a bar missing, just above the spot for attachments. We’ve plugged it with the water bottle holder (the water bottle is plastic and small so we bought another) and the hamster hasn’t escaped again. Clearly a manufacturing defect.Also, another quality issue is that the bottom is flimsy plastic so it bows out and the cage rocks.I’m so disappointed in this purchase. If you buy, be sure to inspect.

The middle section of this (the 2nd ‘floor’) was cracked when I received it. Not to the point of it being unusable for my TINY Chinese dwarf hamster babies. But it did arrive cracked. I looked up their customer service number and called them right away – this was on a Friday afternoon. I explained the situation. They asked me to take pictures of it and send them the Amazon order info via email. I did that, late on that Friday. They shipped out that piece and I received it 4 business days later. They were excellent to deal with and shipped it to me quickly. I didn’t need to send anything back. Just took pictures of the cracked piece. And they shipped me that exact piece to replace it with.My 2 little hammies love this cage; though I do use a different wheel for them. They’re so tiny, I use a small, 5″ wheel instead of the large one this comes with. They have lots of room to run around and they climb all over the upper cage part. The bars are only 1/4″ spacing. So, they can’t get out. They’re in there, safe and snug. And I can see them because of the clear bottom section; which I love. I highly recommend this cage for dwarf hamsters. Not sure if it would be enough room for more than one full-sized hamster, though.

The cage is ok. I have two gerbils and the size is good. The cage itself is good, the products that come with it are not. I replaced the water bottle because they couldn’t get water out of it easily. I replaced the red hide and took out the stairs because they chewed right through the plastic. They still are able to chew the plastic from where the ladder used to be. Overall, the cage is ok but consider the added prices of a separate water bottle, hide, and ladder.

When I ordered this cage, the price was almost double what it is currently, so I was expecting something much nicer. While the size is great, overall it’s a bit on the cheap side. The plastic accessories aren’t well made and you’ll probably want to replace them soon enough with something more sturdy. I like the two floors, though, and the port that allows you to connect tubes to other cages for a sort of “hamster city.”

The cage is great for viewing hamsters. It has a nice play area.The running wheel is assembled so it wobbles and MAKES SO MUCH NOISE that the hamsters had to be moved to the garage for the night.

Decent starter set up.Though you will need a bit more once you get your friendly little critter situated .I like how easy it is to see the pet in this one.Not my favorite for cleaning though just because is a little difficult for me to get hammy into a smaller one so I can really take the top off this one to clean out the bottom thoroughly.He does like running around in this one so that is a good thing.I like keeping the water bottle on the outside makes it easier for me to refill and leaves more space open.

It’s a nice cage but the wheel wouldn’t attach and stay put. Every time he jumped in it would fall. We ended up putting his old wheel inside instead. Didn’t want to do that since the wheel is super loud but that’s the only thing that works. Can anyone tell me how to get it to stay up?

Only flaw was the wheel did not work I had to replace. Other then that the cage is spacious for one or too hamsters.

I love the size and clear bottom of this particular cage. It is easy enough to put together but the instructions are not great. For instance there are different direction for the water bottle. One has it mounted outside the cage and another has it mounted inside. If you put it outside you will have to bend the wires to force the tube through. The picture on the box shows it inside. I would prefer to have it outside for easier access and to avoid it being chewed on but it needs to be inside. 🙁 Lots of plastic so I just don’t know how long this will last. There is a little house and a food bowl included–all plastic so it is fine as a starter. The worst part about this cage is the top opening that is very difficult to lift. It should have some sort of knob or handle but it doesn’t. Very difficult to open. For this price there should have been a decent trap door and less plastic.

I love having the clear bottom and being able to see any digging and burrowing going on ???? It’s pretty sturdy and the slats are spaced well. I prefer the accessories we already had on hand and for that reason we haven’t really used those, though it’s helpful to have some included when building up. I feel like the price listed is fair and feel it will be lasting us a while.

I have a tendency to find injured animals and I have to rehabilitate them. It’s nice to have an emergency cage on hand but having to buy all the extras tends to run up the bills. Amazingly enough these cages come with everything you need. This means that you’re ready to go with all the necessities that you could need. The cage itself is easy to set up and more importantly, easy to clean! Your little critter is going to love this!

I use this critter cage for my pet hamster. This was easy to assemble and comes with a water bottle, a food dish, an exercise wheel, and a little house for my hamster to hide in. The cage is pretty sturdy. It is spacious and has two levels for my pet to live in and explore. It is easy to view and observe my hamster in his new home. He seems to really like it too.

The clear bottom is a huge bonus! All of my other pet cages did not have this cool feature. That being said, I’ve had other cages that were a little bit easier to clean and access my pets. Overall, I still think its a good one. Seems sturdy.

Great cage! We just got it today but so far everything looks awesome. Plenty of room for my daughter’s Syrian hamster. I rated the value for money as 4 stars as the water bottle and little house was way to small (and very lightweight) so we changed those out. The tubing was hard to add but does go on securely. The top layer is plastic, there is no wire as one previous review states. Overall very pleased with this cage.

I plan on upgrading to a larger cage later, but it’s pretty decent for a starter cage. As a precaution, the water bottle comes with a soft, plastic ring on it that my hamster chewed on. I don’t know if it swallowed those little pieces of plastic or not, but so far it’s still okay. I have since found out that piece can be removed and I recommend you do the same.

This is the messiest cage for any small animals. The shavings fall out all around the cage. It has no enclosure for the shavings, so when the hamsters run around shavings and poop get out all over my table and floor. It’s a total mess everyday and has to be cleaned constantly. I do not recommend this cage for anyone !! It is high priced also for what you get!!

One of our short people is spending a lot of time here with the no school and all. We have been sheltering in place. One flaw that she pointed out was that she didn’t have her hamster while her brother had his dog. Thank goodness the other one didn’t talk about his red nosed or red tongued turtle that sounds quite dangerous. It is not at all cuddly.This cage was a perfect solution at the perfect time. It is bigger than the one she has at home, bit that one has tunnels that lead it all over. There was not a chance f disassembling and bringing it here. And as –so many– people pointed out to her, keeping the hamster in a rolling ball also wasn’t a good choice. Ugh. So Curly is here for the duration.

Love this cage. Fast shipping. Well packaged. Easy to put together. We have two dwarf hamsters and they have so much space to move around. If I had to add anything negative – the wheel is a little noisy. Other than that – perfect.

The assembly was simple but lacks sturdiness on the top portion (wire portion). Wire was flimsy and the top latch had already shown signs of wear after only opening/closing a few times. Top latch is not very secure. If you latch it on the 2nd bar you cannot open it without detaching the sides and opening from the bottom but if you use the first latch it’s too loose. We didn’t even have the cage a full 24 hours and our hamster escaped. My daughter thought she left the top latch open but after spying on the hamster we found she was pushing it open herself and escaping. Could of been a disaster as we have a cat in the house. In addition to this the water bottle latches from inside the cage and it falls out of the holder very easily. My daughter had to reattach it several times. Overall it’s not worth the money.

We got it 2 years ago for 2 gerbils and still in great condition. Very sturdy. We attached a standard tube to connect it to a 20 gallon fishtank with topper. The fish tank is for burrowing with about 8”. This cage is not deep enough for burrowing. The wheel is good for gerbils but probably too small for most hamsters. It’s easy to take apart to clean.

Overall its pretty decent for a premade cage and bigger than most.Issues I’ve found:* the water bottle is junk and doesn’t give water as others have stated. Reading its instructions I found there are 2 ball bearings inside. I pulled the tube off and took one ball out and now it provides water though it will NOT be used as its main water bottle. Here is a cheap one that works well: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B003TU3DBQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1* The wheel is floppy and does not sit parallel to the bottom. This will result in hamster running on an angle and falling out more frequently. To help keep it sitting straight and wobble less I glued a couple duplo blocks onto the bottom of the base where it will touch and out some pressure against the plastic bracket that holds the wheel to stabilize and provide support. The wheel was also pretty noisy. Had to sand rough area off the front as well as used a little cooking oil to lubricate the shaft. One could probably also replace with a wheel that has its own stand.*From photos it looked like the middle section was wire which would allow for droppings to fall the the bedding/ bottom. Its actually a solid plastic piece that just has a diamond pattern. May not be great for air circulation during hot months as a result.Please be sure to put tons of bedding in the bottom container so that your hamster can burrow and tunnel as this is natural behaviour for them. If the bedding interferes with the wheel you can simply make a divider around the wheel back with cardboard to keep the bedding away from under the wheel. Hope this is helpful 🙂
