Our Pet Homes, Pet Products and Services Have Been Exceeding Pet Owners’ Expectations Since 1921.

MidWest Homes for Pets™ is a division of Mid-West Metal Products. It’s our parent company’s expertise in wire and sheet-metal fabrication as well as our commitment to diligent ongoing product research, development, and testing that make our pet environments and containment systems among the world’s most trusted. Add to this our commitment to superior customer service and an ever-expanding line of pet accessories, and it’s little wonder we’ve become the largest home builder for pets based in the United States. It helps, too, that we’re pet owners ourselves. Our slogan – Because Life Goes Better with Pets® – states something we genuinely believe.

All our products are distinguished by innovative design and construction. Equally innovative is how our Dog Crates, Small Animal Modular Habitat Systems, Birdcages, Pet Enclosure Furniture, Pet Bedding, and Accessories fulfill very specific needs regarding pet comfort, health, and well-being. And the innovation doesn’t stop there. By also innovating our processes, we’re able to pass the cost savings made possible by production efficiencies on to our customers in the form of lower prices.

In the words of our president ...

Dear Pet Owner,

Our approach to business is quite simple, to provide you with quality products at the best possible price. It is this philosophy that has guided our company since 1921.

As manufacturers of a diverse range of wire-formed products, experience has led to our success in the pet industry, making us the largest manufacturer of pet homes headquartered in the United States.

Recently we have expanded our product line into additional categories to better serve our animal friends. Our product development team takes the time to research the specific needs in each category in order to provide products that are safe and beneficial for both the pet and pet parent. As pet enthusiasts ourselves, we welcome feedback for the improvement of our products and evaluate suggestions when they are received.

Please take some time to explore this site to see what we have to offer you. We look forward to continually providing products to make life with your pet more enjoyable.

Sincerely,

Brad Cantwell

President

MidWest Quality: you can see it, feel it, test it.

Quality is what built our brand over 90 years ago. It’s the foundation of our business. And its our commitment to ongoing, industry-leading quality assurance practices that continues to sustain our brand.

One thing that sets us apart from our competitors is the synergistic relationship we’ve established between our research and design department, our quality-control and testing lab, our customer-service team, and our production facilities.

This synergism enables us to assure our customers that they’re getting the best possible product at a fair price and that we have what it takes to properly address the things that matter most to them. Ultimately, it ensures that they’re providing their pets with the safest, healthiest, most comfortable and secure homes on the market – truly innovative homes that satisfy every pet need.

Our tests follow detailed procedures and evaluation methods and are designed to meet the highest of standards, including those set forth by the American Society for Quality and the American Society for Testing and Materials.

Each MidWest product undergoes rigorous testing from the product design phase and throughout the lifespan of the product line.

Wire Products

Each crate, exercise pen, and wire product is tested for coating adhesion, rust resistance, lead, adherence to wire gauge and mesh standards, welds, and overall durability and functionality.

Textiles

Our QuietTime® pet beds and fabric products, like Feline Nuvo® Cat Furniture, undergo textile testing following the standards set forth by the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists.

We closely monitor the appearance and durability of our pet beds after repeated laundering, evaluating the smoothness, seams, weight, density, dimensional changes, pilling, and colorfastness. Specialty textiles are repeatedly tested to ensure they meet our stated performance claims, including

absorbency and wicking in our Dry Paws™ Training Pads and the water-resistance of our QuietTime® MAXX pet beds.

Packaging

MidWest tests all products and their packaging according to International Safe Transit Association standards. This includes testing the strength and robustness of the combined product and packaging as well as conducting fixed displacement, vibration, and shock testing.

An Overview of Our Quality-Assurance Process

A Martindale Abrasion Tester is used to check the abrasion and pilling resistance of fabric. Fine grit sandpaper is used to replicate the pad of a dog’s paw.

A Light Box allows us to look at the results of our tests under different types of light, including daylight, fluorescent and incandescent light.

A Crockmeter is used for testing the transference of color from the surface of one material to another by either wet or dry rubbing.

The Water Repellency Test measures the resistance of fabrics to wetting.

A Drop Test is used to test overall functionality of the crate and its components after 3 drops from three feet.

A Continuous Impact Test is used to test the durability of our Plastic crate pans.

The Cross-Hatch Adhesion Tester and Lead Test evaluates wire coating adhesion and tests for traces of lead.

A Static Load Test is used to test the durability of a crate.

Our detachable plastic handles are put through the Handle Strength and Durability Test.

Besides taking care of pet owners and their pets with exceptional quality-engineered products and responsive customer service, we also take good care of those who sell and distribute our products. Among the various benefits we offer them are an innovative Three-Tier Authorized Dealer Program, various product promotions, and top-notch marketing, sales, merchandising, and display materials.
